Have to veneer up a table top and due to it’s size, probably ought to buy a vac press. Don’t want to spend a lot since it won’t get used much in the future.
I know you can make your own, but really don’t have the time.
Any advice on brands? I have an air compressor, so I could probably use the kind that runs off of it.
Thanks for the help!!!

I bought my bags and compressor driven Pump from Vacuum Pressing Systems in Maine (www.vacupress.com). This is a great company to deal with and the stuff is top notch.
Don't be misled by your present day intentions. I too got into veneer for one job and now seem to be enmeshed in it.
I just ordered the "Compact 100" system from Vacuum Pressing Systems last Friday. The basic system with a 49" x 49" bag will cost you $298. Since I plan on starting my veneering career on a bed (head and footboards) I substituted a 4' x 8' bag and the total came to $400. I also ordered their "Working with Veneer" video for $34.95 to get me started in the right direction. If you've ever watched WoodWorks with David Marks on DIY you can appreciate what dramatic results that can be acheived with veneering. I'm really excited about getting started and my press should be here this week. The gentleman I talked to was very helpful in making my choice and he said that the owner uses this model of press in doing his veneer work. Check out their website (they also have a forum that discusses veneering).
Thanks to you and Jeff for the response. I looked at that vac press vendor you both mentioned. Good prices. I think I'll go with the basic, manual system that uses my compressor. With a 30 mil vinyl bag, it'll only run $323, which I can live with.
Haven't even bought it yet and the wife is already asking me if I can get some figured veneers she's seen on Woodworks and make her a couple projects. I suppose that's what I get for watching the shows while she's sitting right there. :)
Thanks again!!!!!
John
