I need another piece of flexible 4″ hose for my DC. The kind like you used to see on clothes dryers. All stores around here now only sell the aluminum flex pipe for dryers.
I use this on top of my rolling workbench to connect to various tools as they are used. The more rigid stuff will not work (and I have pleanty of that).
Any idea where I can buy some? The last I got was bought at a woodworking show which has moved on.

Virtually all of the broad-category WWing catalogs carry 4" flexible DC hose. Is there something I'm missing here? (I just started my first cup of coffee!)

Yeah, most all the 'flexible' hose I've seen is to stiff for my needs. I want the real thin kind that will bend to an almost zero radius. The kind that used to be put on clother dryer outlets.

I could be wrong but I think the old plastic hose is no longer available because of fire hazard..
Not sure what you are doing but the aluminum works.. I use some but mostly the regular hose..
Maybe use it and get some of the aluminum tape to stiffen it where you need..
What I know??? ... Just what I would do.
Anything thinner than the flex tubing you already have would probably not hold up to the abrasion from wood dust.
I know the kind of flexible dryer vent hose you're talking about. I know it is no longer code compliant (at least around here) so it may be hard to find.
We can still buy insulated vent hose for dryers and vent fans; you might look at that the next time you're in a big box. The stuff I have used has a flexible hose inside with the insulation kind of in a separate tube on the outside. You might be able to strip the insulation off and get what you're looking for.
Its useable life span on a jointer or TS, however, might be pretty limited.

I have a blast gate on top of my rolling workbench. The hose that attaches to it is used on my drum sander, oscillating sander, lathe, & drill press. I just switch it around as needed. It has to be limber to snake around all the tools. I tried a regular flex hose like Delta has and it just doesn't work; it's to stiff.
The workbench is plumbed inside with a regular flexhose running from it to the blast gate on the wall from the DC.

There used to be a company called Flexmaster who made all types of duct .You might try a search for them .Sorry I have no time at the moment to take it any further.
PlaneWood: I came across http://www.hosexpress.com looking for cord reel drop lights. They had so many types of hose from tiny to gigantic, they might have some thing of high quaility (and price!) that would work. Also http://www.kbduct.com/rubberflex.shtml#RFH

Hi,
I see this... signature?

Are these degrees or woodworking certifications?
Just curious; as I am not familiar with them.
They are certifications that Duke is passionate about his firearms.
Ooops, silly me I thought stuff in here was supposed to about woodworking and political stuff was reserved for the cafe;)
Rich: My signature line goes where I go, just like a old fashioned calling card. Do you really not know what NRA stands for? Ignore it if it bothers you, there is a feature in the Knots software that lets you ignore anyone you don't want to hear from. I forgive you for being silly.

I don't recall asking for, nor do I need your forgiveness. Thanks for the tip;)
You are an adult, no? You admitted silliness, therefore you need forgiveness! Also for feigning ignorance of what the initials NRA stand for. :)Kenneth Duke Masters

Hey the other guy started this, what am I supposed to do sit there? All I did was post a reply about the dust hose to the forum with my signature which I use everywhere, it doesn't bother most people here. He asked a disingenuous question and I told him off, mildly and politely. KDMKenneth Duke Masters

So much for subtlety;) I was trying in non-confrontational way to suggest that as this is a forum about woodworking, that our affiliations with organizations that are un-related to that field are superfluous at best. Even the cowboys used to take off their guns when they went to church or sat down for dinner;)
Rich: Others have attacked my signature line in subtile and unsubtle ways. You didn't ask for my forgiveness and I didn't ask for your suggestion. Others on this forum have signature or tag lines that make a political statement, have you suggested anything to them? Guns are only one part of the basis of even the NRA, the main part of that organization but LEAA works for victims rights and has other support functions for police and corrections officers. And the Bill of Rights has something for everyone. Yes this is a woodworking forum but the folks here are of all political stripes and all are free to sign their posts anyway they like. In my opnion it doesn't detract one splinter from any ideas or questions herein. Yes I do take heat in these maters, is that a crime?
So I've heard your suggestion, subtle or otherwise, my signature line stays, end of story.

Industrial suppliers of ducting will probably carry the more flexible stuff you are seeking. When my system was installed in 1996 the suppliers fitted clear vinyl wire wound flex in a variety of diameters. It has got brittle with age but I've only replaced 2 sections of mine in 9 years. It is a lot more flexible than the regular 4" stuff seen in most shops.
Don
Rockler has their clear flexible hose on sale for $12.99 for a 4" x 10'. This hose moves like a Slinky, it will easily twist or bend to where you want it. It's thick vinyl with a good wire reinforcement, tough, stretches, compresses and you can watch it work! Much stronger than a plastic dryer hose.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Planewood ,
I know exactly what you are speaking of , I use it off blastgates from a plenum I made along one wall . A drop at each machine , and very flexible . It certainly will not last as long as the DC stiffer type , but it so flexible it is easy to pull my shapers in and out while still connected to the dryer hose . The last I bought was at a big box store as a dryer vent kit , with a plastic frame you could use to vent through a wall. If it is no longer available maybe you could use a Y or T or a 3 way fitting so as to be able to twist the fitting as needed to keep the stiffer hose in alignment .
good luck dusty
PlaneWood,
When I bought my dust collector from Penn State Industries, it came with 50' of very flexible 4" black hose - similar to the dryer vent hose mentioned. I checked their website and they still have the same hose. It seems to be available in 50' or 8' lengths. Check at http://www.pennstateind.com and click on Dust Collect. Accessories and then on Hose, Tubing and Clamps.
Good luck,
Richard Baker
What I need is about 6 inches of 6" flex hose in order to hook my cyclone up to the chip barrel. Right now I'm using duct tape, but it's a pain when time to empty.
I hate to buy 10 ft when I only need 6 in.
Thanks Richard, just ordered the 8' black hose. Looks to be identical to the one I have been using. The one I have been using was cut to short originally and has several holes in it now after 5 years of use.
Now that I think about it, it may have been a Penn State booth that I bought the first one at.

I just bought 50 ft of really flexible hose. I got it from Amazon but they got it from grizzly, it's made by PSI Woodworking and has a 6 mil vinyl coating around the wire. It will double back on itself with no problemos. It does collapse some from the suction on my d/c.
