Bedroom In contrast to the other rooms, the Bedroom is sumptuously carved in the Neo-Gothic style. 14 woodcarvers are said to have worked 4 1/2 years to create this room. The Monarch’s bed is crowned by the most intricate woodcarving and covered with richly Embroider draperies. | View Image |
I visited this Castle’s bedroom and it was one the most stunning pieces of fine working I have ever seen. The carvings on top of the bed are replica’s of the city’s at that period in time. I have included a pic I took to show you the true setting and impact when I was there more then 20 years ago. What a Treasure for Germany!

I'll second that Lee, absolutely beautiful !!!
My German teacher in highschool made a beautiful mural of Neuschwanstein on the back wall of his class room and under it quoted Schiller,
"Soll das werke den Meister Loben, doch der Segen kommnt von Oben"
Only the work shall praise the master, the blessings come from above after. Very apropos.

Have you ever seen the carving in the churches in South America? Unbelievable! And the stories that go behind them, like the native builder in Cusco,Peru, who's life labor was to build this church, including the most intricate carving as you have ever seen, just dripping from everywhere. Almost all the wood carved was Cedar. The pulpit was mesmerising with a tale carved out in front of you. When he died in the late 1500's they placed his skull at the top of the pulpit. I wish I was allowed to take photos, there are many in the colonial cities.
I was bumming around Albany, New York last summer and spent a couple of days studying a four flight staircase in the New York State Capitol. It took something like 200 stone carvers twenty years to make it. It was an acanthus leaf pattern, awesome, utterly awesome. There is a lot of incredible work surprisingly close to home, especially in the East.
What motif was the South american work, Dave?

The style is what I would call 'Classical', for lack of a more appropriate term. The carvings include flora and fuana, most of which are of indigeonus species and more like sculpture, but not limited to that only. A lot of classical archiatectural carvings like mouldings. Some of the cathedrals we visited are quite famous and I'm sure phtographs are viewable somewhere. All of it is in the style of European work, the conquest and all that, you know.
