Has anyone purchased or used the new Delta x5 table saws? I am particularly interested in the 3 hp one with the Biesmeyer fence. The Delta model before this one got high reviews, but the only thing that I’ve read or heard abut this one was on Amazon and the guy gave it low ratings for constantly over-heating and automatically shutting down.

Brian,
Overheating and shutting down could be caused by a number of things that are no fault of the saw, such as using the wrong blade, or a dull blade or, (and this is the most likely) having the saw hooked up to inadequate wiring.

Brian: Just took delivery of a new X-5 unisaw in the exact same set-up as you describe (left tilt with 50" Biesemeyer). It is everything I hoped it would be.
It operates crisply and oh so quietly compared to my previous Delta. My only gripe is that Delta went with the one size fits all table extension. In the past, the table extension ended at the same point as the Biesemeyer "angle irons" terminated. Now they cantilever 8" beyond. I have to cut off 8" and relaminate the end in order to appropriately attach my Biesemeyer overhead blad guard. Not a big deal, but a little bit annoying.
Managed a really good deal ($1649), which has further reinforced my purchase happiness. The dealer shipped to me the mobile stand and so I was able to use the Delta factory coupon to get the free P-C router also. Then, at the show where I was taking delivery, the dealers got into a bit of competition and I ended up negotiating a Delta hollow chisel mortiser to be thrown into the deal as well - Value of about $250. So, at the end of the day and after selling my Delta contractor saw for $500, I feel like I really have little invested for such a great saw.
If you don't have 220 service yet, get some before you take delivery or you will be impatiently waiting for the electrician as I was.
That guy doesn't sound real smart to moi. Might be an advantage to that though -- maybe he'd sell you the "defective" saw real cheap!
