Hi, I’ve been reading the forum for awhile but never actually posted anything here. Has anyone heard anything about the new Dewalt planers? I already have a 12 1/2 inch delta planer , but its starting to show some wear which is actually just an excuse to upgade. I was pretty much set on the two speed delta when I read that Dewalt was coming out with a similar model. I buy almost all my lumber rough cut from the omish sawmills and air dry it, so I use my planner alot.

why wouldn't you get a production machine? Like a delta, Jet, wilke, Powermatic, etc..... Go for the really good stuff.

I don't have all that much space for a stands alone planer. I was able to make some extra money over the summer building decks , and I finally bought a 14" band saw w/riser block for doing resawing which took up the last open floor space in the garage. Unless my wife is willing to give up her parking space.lol [gets pretty cold in Minnesota]
the new modle dewalt 12.5 has this
the new modle dewalt 13" has
But hwre can you buy it and WHEN?

Jerry,
Both are currently available at our local Lowe's here (Midland, TX).

Thanks.
I've checked Lowes twice and they were not in - but, today, I received my Woodcraft flier and they list them. I'm ready to go.

179 cuts per inch? Is this true or a typo?
Unless my memory left me (always a possibility lol), my Delta 13" 2 speed gives me either 60 or 90 cpi. This makes the DeWalt WAY ahead of the Delta (at least in terms of cpi). Wow.
I have to say that I feel as though the Delta easily provides as much quality as I currently want/need, and I can't imagine ever needing better, but it is hard to know how much one's wants/needs change as time goes by ... and as one's knowledge and experience grows. In either case, the DeWalt really puts a lot of cuts in a board, thats for sure.
I do like that idea of the fan-assisted chip ejection ... a lot.

I don't know but the info came from the info supplied off of amazon web site.
The extra cpi are attributable to the extra knife in the cutterhead.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
There have been 2 articles in 2 different mags this month on the new DeWalt. I have long lusted after the Delta 13" 2-speed planer, but the DeWalt is now tops on the lust-list. 3 knives and automatic head-lock are great features and it looks solid as a rock. Keep in mind, "portable" is a bit optimistic though, LOL!
