Ok Boys & Girls heres the scoop we all have been waiting for.. my spies at Dewalt have informed me that Dewally is indeed coming out with not just one new planer but 2 new ones.. the first model is a DW 734 12″ model which is a updated old model DW733 it has a 3 blade cutterhead will sell for around $379.00 retail.. the 2nd model is a all new model DW735 13″ 2~Speeds 3~blades it will retail for around $479.00 & should be out sometime around Nov.. I kinda sorta thought they would be coming out with a 2 speed model to try & compete with the Delta 2 speed..I twas right..<G>..

Forgive me if this is the wrong thread but I have a qestion about my Dewalt planer. (I figures anyone who would be interested might have the same problem.
I've noticed recently that the left side of the cutter head is very slightly higher than the right. Ie, If I pass a piece through the left it won't cut, and through the left if makes contact. I've always been careful to pass pieces through the planer at different positions (not all in the center fo example.) Is it just time to remove/reset/resharpen the blades (I'm still getting smooth cuts) or has the cutter head itself become mis-aligned?
Thanks

I've worn out one 733 and on my second! The problem you're talking about is common and caused by the drive chain that runs under the machine to work the left side raising/lowering screws. The deal is that the chain gets some slack in it after use and it sort of lags behind the right side. In other word you are making the screws move on the right side directly while the left side is chain driven off that screw. The problem is that the chain is just a bit loose and there is a take-up ideal sprocket in the bottom of the machine you can tighten. Turn the planer on its side and you can take off the inspection plate. Normally all you need to do is adjust this tension idler so that the chain is back to a good stung, not overly tight, tension. Whatever you do, do not loosen the sprockets on the shafts! You'll change the timing of the whole thing and it takes time to fix!
thanks a bunch. I'll look into both of thoes things.

About a week and a half ago, I was at Woodcraft, to buy a replacement for my worn-out junky portable planer. I got the Delta 2-speed, because I needed something just about immediatly.
But the salesperson explained that if I didn't mind waiting, that the new Dewalt would be available in the fall. He told me that, in addition to the two-speeds, their higher-level offering will also have some sort of blower built into the chip-chute. It will also come with a cloth tube/funnel/chute, that can be attached between the planer and a trash can. Bingo -- instant dust collection, included in the price of the machine.
If he's correct, I predict this will be stiff competition for the Delta.
But its still Not a DELTA!

"But it's still not a Delta".
It still hasn't seen duty yet either. A soldier looks pretty in a new uniform, but the real question is can he fight. Think I'll wait till it's proven where it counts till I make any decisions on whether I might chose it over something else. ha..ha..

I imagine your right about being at the mags. I wish someone would do an updated tool test. The usually excellent one from American WoodWorker for 2003 for basically just a re-print of 2002. Must have had priorities elsewhere or the budget was a little tight. ha..ha..
There's a web-site that has test that are on-line, but I have unfortunately mis-placed it. If you or anyone know that site I would appreciate if you would re-post it.
Well, got to go scrounge some dump-sters to see if I can come up with the building materials I need to build my next master-piece. ha..ha..
Have a good day...

"DELTA = Battle Tough + Battle Proven & even Battle ship gray...." I dunno Tooldoc. I was always a big Delta fan but some of my experience with some of their imported stuff leads me to believe it would have been better used as boat anchor material.
JC: Yup your Right,You have to pick out the "GEMS" from the not soo good ones.. But isn't that getting to be the Norm these days from all the mfgs ???
ToolDoc
Ooooohhhhhhh, a new tool test, OH BOY, OH BOY! (Just can't get enough of those reviews, LOL). And to think I passed over this thread for several days, silly! How you two doin'?!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

Speaking for myself, busy. Trying to scrounge up enough maple to have a go at a new work-bench. Swore I'd never go there again, but I bought that Work-Bench Book by Landis. Been fascinated with it since. Don't buy it if you absolutely, positively don't need a work-bench at the moment.
Hope everything is falling into place with all the festivity arrangements. Fall is just around the corner and you're getting awful close to captivity. ha..ha..
BTW, we're going with the Norton as you suggested. Thanks...
