Wow, you carved that dog you see in the mirror? It's so lifelike. Looks almost real. You're really talented, y'know? How do you do on cats?
Well, all kidding aside, I must admit that Mr. Hamilton is a true artisan with enormous talent. I've seen some photos of some of his work, and he is amazing. And, you ain't so bad yourself either. You've definitely got the talent, esp. if you carved that mirror frame after just a few lessons. Really neat looking - love the detail and evenness of your carving. Truly impressive work.
What kind of wood was that and how did you finish it? About how long did the actual carving take you?
Would love to attend but, unfortunately, I have to head down to Virginia about that time and will be down there that particular weekend.
Hi Griff,
Thanks for the comments. The wood is mahogany. I finished it with 3 coats of tried and true Danish Oil and 3 coats of wax. I didn't really keep track of my hours into the piece, but I guess that including the finishing it's close to 70 or 80. Clive would have been able to do it in 8.... People say it takes skill and patience... I have no skill yet, just patience. I guess that is the same with anything - if you have enough patience, eventually you will develop the skill.
Hope you can make it out here sometime. Clive and I work pretty much full time out of the shop. Swing by for a visit sometime,
Matt
Well, thanks for invite Matt. I'll try to do that some time.
You're in Worcester? Or is that just the location of this meeting? I would have thought the Guild of Eastern Mass would be further towards Boston or the Cape.Griff
The Guild is having their November Meeting at my shop which is in Worcester. Members of the Guild are scattered all throughout Mass....
:-)
