Just got my General 50-260 today:) Assembly went perfect until I got to the fence assembly none of the holes lined up drilled new holes assembled everything and the front fence ended up an inch high start again tomorrow! I do have question since this is my first real saw, got the electrical all wired, went to start it up and all there was is a whirling sound coming from the magnetic switch. Do I have something hooked up wrong or does it take awhile to start? Any help would be much appreciated:)

Update:
I got the fence on correctly today even got it it running. The problem still exists! if I open up the switch and push in the on switch (left side of switch) it ran, shut if off tried to start it again, starts but does not continue to run. pushing the start button (Right side) still get the whirling sound. Help please:(
Does this run on 220. If it does, you need to make sure you have two hot leads and one wire attached to the neutral at the recepticle.

Yup 220 single phase. Ground is ground w/ 2 hot legs.
Actually, the third leg goes to neutral, not ground. True, it is tied to the ground in the panel, but I was told by a motor repair shop that it goes to neutral. I have a shaper that, while it's wired the same way as my TS and compressor, makes a buzzing sound when the switch is turned on. It makes no noise at their shop, but if/when I get the motor's shaft repaired, I'll address the other problem.

No neutral in a 220 circuit or receptacle (except weird old dryer outlets). Two hots and a neutral.
As you say, they're bonded at the panel, but it's not a neutral. My goal is for my work to outlast me. Expect my joinery to get simpler as time goes by.
John, I had a few problems with my General contractor saw when I tried putting it together. My major problem was that the switch didn't work. I contacted the regional sales rep with my questions. He was more receptive than I even expected him to be. There was a new switch in the mail within days. I contacted him again when I had a question about hooking it up. He e-mailed a solution within a day. That was in June. I now noticed that my dado insert was slightly warped, and I had a question about a zero clearance insert. Within a day he promised to send a new dado insert and recommended a source for my zero clearance insert. When I e-mailed the source, the sales peerson there already knew what I wanted. All there was left to do was to pay for it. That's a long winded way of saying: contact your regional sales rep. To find him/ her e-mail <[email protected]> and let them know what's ailing you and where you live. They are very helpful. Good luck with your new saw. I love mine. Shalom
I did email them unfortunatly it's the weekend:( so I was hoping it was something I did and could fix, but it sounds like it's the switch which means waiting a few days:( Thanks for the feed back.
John,
Check your breakers.... See if you may have both of your breakers on just one side of the panel's legs. Even though they are side by side, finding room for a 220v set of breakers could have gotten you to plug into just one leg inside the breaker box.
