Finally bit the bullet & bought myself a new General Mfg. (not International) drill press. Nice machine, 3/4 hp,5 speeds, quill lock,4.5″ quill travel, Jacobs chuck. Just a good basic 15″ machine. $1400 & change (CDN.) including taxes. Will outlast me.
Looked at International. 12 speeds (3 pulleys & 2 belts), crank up table, 1/2 hp,3.5″ quill travel, no quill lock,
Asian chuck, relatively solid machine. Cold have had it for $399 Cdn plus taxes (14%).
Doesn’t make sense. I can understand Asian mfg. but why not make it a good basic machine with quick speed changes, eliminate the crank up table, add a quill lock, and a good chuck. Could still be a good buy. I know, I could have made changes to an International. Might have even saved some $$, but how do you put a price on aggravation?
Anyway, that’s my rant for today. And I do have a nice drill press

Have seen your press at Redmond & Sons (a General and GI dealer here in Atlanta). It is a very solid and well machined tool. Love that General T/S also. The DP will outlast you. Doesn't that just tick you off..he..he..
I don't know if you maple-leafs observe the holiday, but you could be a big hit on St. Patricks day here. I'm green with envy..grin<>
Have fun..

When I was looking for a mortiser, I went to their web-site to see where some dealers were I could call. Discovered their is a pretty large dealer with show-room here on the other side of Atlanta. About 45 miles from me.
Drop in every now and then as yes, I am most definitley impressed with their line. Love the T/S and jointer. He-l, I like everything I saw. It's excellent machinery. I mic everything and check for flatness. Kind of picky. Nothing much to pick with General. Only thing I would change on that T/S is add a rivving knife and crown gaurd. But that holds true with all the NA T/S's. Other than that, I might add about 4 parts oz. of yellow oxide a gal. to the green paint. Give it more life. Ha... Told you I'm picky.
Great Stuff in green...

Paul, You won't be sorry, I have the general 15 inch bandsaw, 350 table saw and 780 12 in. jointer. Every machine runs smooth and trouble free, had most for 10 years or more, very happy with performance.
