I just got this delivered yesterday from amazon. It was bought to replace a three-year-old Craftsman two gallon unit that was so much louder than any other tool in the shop… It also didn’t have a dust-proof switch, so it would frequently act up and not turn on because of dust contamination in the contacts.
Anyhow, this new one ($230) is outstanding. The suction is powerful, it’s quieter than a regular household vacuum, and the attachments are top-notch.
I’m moving into a condo in about a month, and this will be serving as my dust collector and all around shop vac for cleaning cars and such. I know it won’t hack planer duty, but I think it will handle anything else I throw at it.
It didn’t include some of the more common attachments, for cleaning cars, but it did include two pipes, a handle with pressure release vent, and two floor cleanup attachments. (one for wet duty, and one for dry) It also included two different filters, (one wet, one dry) and a rubber adapter so that it will accept cheapo shop vac accessories.
During my extensive research, it looked like a better deal than the Feins. It’s got an adapter so that common extensions can be used, has a larger diameter 8′ hose, and the construction looks really tough. I would recomend this to anyone looking for a shop vac or smaller, more portable, versatile dust collector. I may still get a dust collector some day, but not in the near future.

Thanks for the review. I'm happy to see some competition in the small sized, quiet portable vac world.
8" diameter hose!! That's a typo, right?
Best,
Seth
Oops. Never mind. That typo is actually lodged in my brain. I see now . . . 8 FOOT, large diameter hose.

small shop vac/dust collector
Re the Hitachi: sounds good for me. I already blew up my wife's vaccuum cleaner twice now, and I wont get another chance.
Need a real shop vac now. Where did you buy the Hitachi and what is the model number?

Small table saw
Does anyone make a small table saw? One that's smaller than the 10" blade size they call a portable contractors saw and sell at Home Depot. I'm thinking of a table mounted saw that takes a standard 7 1/4" skill saw blade.
So far, the only table saw I founnd that's smaller than the 10" size is a 3 1/2" blade modelling saw.
Or, if they don't make it: has anyone built a jig to convert their portable skill saw into a table saw?
