I just bought a new Makita 2704 jobsite table saw to use on cabinet installations. I was going to get the Bosch 4000 until I saw this unit at my local Home Depot. Let me tell you why I chose this saw. An adjustable rip fence that you can tweek till it is parallel, METAL gears not plastic, motor brake , 3″ 5/8 blade depth. dado capable, T slots that will fit any commercial accessories ,an easy to use cart that rivals the Bosch, onboard storage for everything. I had heard reviews of the 2703 and that saw was largely ignored because of it’s rip fence problems, but I believe this saw has solved those problems and more. I messed around for an hour looking over this thing and the fit and finish is very nice. Anyone who is a Makita fan should look at this saw. I almost ignored it because of the hype surrounding the Bosch.I will post further reviews as I use it.

I saw this Makita saw for the first time today -- at wwing show.
I have a Bosch, and it looks like Makita is going to give them a real run for the money.
Is it any lighter than the Bosch?

No i don't think it is lighter,I read the specs and the Bosch weighs 135 and the Makita is 150.I lifted it wheels first unto my tailgate and then from the back, it wasn't too hard to do.
I just looked it up myself, and found that the Makita without the stand is 62 lbs, whereas the Bosch is 56 lbs. -- and that's not bad. However, the most irksome flaw on the Bosch is those plastic gears, since they clog up with sawdust and have to be cleaned out frequently.
If Makita is using metal gears, I would count that as a big plus.********************************************************

Well I ran the saw today and i am not dissapointed. Very quiet and good power,it went thru 8/4 white oak without a problem. It also has holes in the fence to bolt on an aux. fence and adjustments on top of the saw for parrallel and angle blade adjustments. The undercarriage is also all metal. Wow this thing is a Bosch killer.
Sounds like a nice jobsite saw....even for those who aren't Makita fans!
