Greetings all,
Just taking a minute to intro myself. My name is Joe Celona and I live in Solana Beach, CA. Professionally, I work for HP (Hewlett-Packard) as an IT Engineer, but that’s to make money. I’ve lots of hobbies that frankly I like a lot better than working on computers – one of course being woodworking. I’ve been furniture making for about 9-years now since first taking a course at Palomar College here in the San Diego area.
I’m married with two children, a son 13, and a stepdaughter 28, and the house is pretty much filled with stuff I’ve made, and my wife always seems to have at least three items on the list of things to make.
Thanks – and I look forward to interacting with you all,
-Joe

Welcome Joe.
There should be a woman behind every good man, I believe...
How about some pictures of the items you have made?

Hi, Joe, welcome! Feel free (or even compelled, LOL) to post some pics in the gallery. Solana Beach....hmmmmm......rings a bell. Ah, the coveted San Diego area, right?

Thank you all for you kind greetings.
Yes, North San Diego County is where Solana Beach is located. My wife and I have lived in this area for a long time, and it's quite nice - although we are making plans to move when we retire. We feel as though it's getting more crowded than we like.
Do I miss Carly? In short, no. Not sure many HP employees, or shareholders, do. I have a cynical view of mergers - been through a couple - and how someone can do such an arguably horrible job and get booted out the door with $40 million is beyond me. But this is all a topic for another forum.
Other hobbies? In no particular order:
Cooking - another artistic outlet really, and because I like to eat good food.
Surfing - Been surfing for years and it's a family thing with my wife, son and me in the water together regularly. Definitely "quality time".
Motorcycling - Been riding for 25 years, although I seem to be doing less-and-less these days due to time constraints.
Exercise & fitness - If I don't surf, I try to do something else each day, and I've got a variety of activities that fall under this item.
Let me track down a few pictures of stuff I've made, and I'll post again,
-Joe
Cut-and-Dried Hardwoods in Solana Beach used to be a mecca for me when I lived in S.D. in the 90's. Someone mentioned it on this forum within the last 3 years so I guess its still in biz? Welcome to the forum.
Hi Ed,
I live about 5-minutes from Cut-And-Dried and it is still in business, but was sold a year or two ago. The new owner closed the wood shop and sold all the equipment, then sublet the space to a business that sells furniture. With its Cedros Design District location, the place is now quite "upscale", and their wood prices are totally over-the-top IMO, and even with my San Diego Fine Woodworkers discount, they're 30% more than Lane Stanton - the place I buy most of my stock now.
I'll go there if it's Sunday afternoon and I need one board for something; otherwise I'll bit-the-bullet and make the 25-minute drive to Lane Stanton in San Marcos. It just hurts too much now to pay their prices.

Hi Joe,
Greetings from a fellow Palomar CFT apostle. It's been a huge disappointment to see what's been happening at Cut & Dried. Thank goodness there are still a few other choices (have you tried TH&H in Mira Mesa?), not to mention the urban forestry program at Palomar.
Are you planning to attend the autumn SDFWA seminar with Becksvoort?

Haven't heard of TH&M in Mira Mesa? Been to Frost a number of times; give me a little more info and I'll check them out. Regarding the seminar, no, wasn't planning to go. My wife doesn't really like Shaker and three full days while be a great deal for $80 is more time than I can spare.
For those that asked, I posted a few pictures of things I've made in The Gallery in a post called "New Member JoeC - a few project pics".
Cheers,
-Joe
TH&H: The Hardwoods & Hardware Company9040 Activity Rd, Bldg ESan Diego, CA 92126(858) 536-1800
The people who work there are a little nicer than the folks at Frost. They have a selection of hardwoods, sheet goods, some finishing materials, some tools (including Festool), some hardware...
I'm pretty sure they're on the SDFWA resource/sponsor/member discount list, so bring your SDFWA card with you!
