New Name and Focus of “Plans” folder
Hello Knots Members,
<!—-><!—-> <!—->
Following the review of computer aided design (CAD) software in Fine Woodworking issue #172 (http://www.taunton.com/store/pages/fw_toc_172.asp), we’ve noticed quite a bit of activity in Knots among members who purchased the recommended software. We’ve also received inquiries from forestgirl, and others, to provide a platform for members to share ideas and find product-specific support from others in the community. As a result, we’ve decided to expand the “Plans” folder in Knots to also include discussions on CAD software.
<!—-> <!—->
To ensure that the folder is valuable to CAD users, we’ve decided to create some guidelines:
<!—-> <!—->
1. Each discussion should be specific to a single manufacturer’s CAD program. This way, users will be able to find product-specific information without having to wade through irrelevant posts.
<!—-> <!—->
2. Members are encouraged to start new discussions, and the title of each discussion should be specific to a software program. Some examples of thread titles could be: “Using Layers in AutoCAD” or “Getting Started with DesignCAD.”
<!—-> <!—->
3. We saw the need for a facilitator to help keep the various CAD-related threads on track, and we asked forestgirl to take on this role, which she has agreed to do. If a thread looks to be veering off course, she will around to answer questions and help users start a new thread.
<!—-> <!—->
This folder is here to help you all expand your knowledge of CAD and subsequently improve your woodworking projects. If you have any questions or suggestions as to how we can make this more useful please let us know.
Thanks Taunton New Media

Ahhh, an excellent way to keep ForestGirl off the streets and gainfully occupied -- perhaps even keep her from wasting her time oggling over the likes of Jimmy Smits. But, not likely, I suppose.
An excellent idea, we are pleased you are trying to get this organized for us. Now, if Jamie can only come up with an easy tutorial for us to learn Design CAD in thiry minutes or less perhaps the rest of us can get our attention span up to that. I bought it, but just haven't found the time...

"an easy tutorial for us to learn Design CAD in thiry minutes or less " Don't I wish! Hold not thy breath, Woody, LOL!!!
I, too, would like to thank Mark and the rest of SysOp for providing us with a place to raise our CAD questions and get help from those who've managed to learn how to use it. I'll feel safe asking "how do I draw a ________?" and the real techies can work through their tough problems.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)

Hire a expert with a years experience?
Sorry.. I had to.. I did software some time back...
This is a great idea! I've downloaded an 8 hour trial of Sketchit, but it's $475! I'll probably just have to bite the bullet with the rest of you on DesignCAD. My son in law is a civil engineer and uses CAD every day. Maybe I can get some tutoring sessions!Alan & Lynette Mikkelsen, Mountain View Farm, est. 1934, Gardens & Fine Woodworking, St. Ignatius, MT
