Wow!! This whole business about a new log-in will sure slow ya down!
Sold the Powermatic model 100 12″ planer a couple of weeks ago. My new Yorkcraft YC-20P 20″ was delivered today and is ready for connection to power and dust collection. I’ll get my Byrd Shellix head in about 8 weeks according to Wilke. When I get the machine connected and running this weekend I’ll post my initial impression. The Powermatic will be a tough act to follow… When I get the new cutter-head installed, that’ll be another matter….. Ken

That is going to be a nice upgrade! Yorkcraft scored well in a recent review and with the new cutter-head, it will be a great tool to have in the shop. Let us know how it goes.

Ken,
I am very keen to know how that helix head shapes up-how much extra did it cost?
Also, is there a web address for Yorkcraft-I have not heard of them.

Pricing for the cutter head is listed as an option item for the planer.

I was planing to buy a planer with the Byrd cutter but didn't know who offered it. When I spoke to Tom Byrd about technical aspects of the cutter I finished the conversation with the question: Do you know of a planer manufacturer or distributor who offers your cutter? He mentioned that Grizzly is looking at it but that Oliver and Wilke do offer it. Wilke's Yorkcraft line fits my budget and as ALL of you know, when it comes to generic four post planers, except for HP, they're all the same. Ken

Hooked up, vented, ran a piece of figured cherry, WOW. I can also say with complete honesty, having just sold the Powermatic 100, the build quality, fit, and finish is superior to the model 100.
My initial impression is very positive. Ken
