Must say this new policy of having to type in the squirrely letters to post is rediculous. Tried to give an answer to help somebody and must’ve mistyped a letter. It wouldn’t allow me anotyher chance.

squirrely letters
Some months back, there was an instance of one "robot" spammer posting to the forum. The anti-bot text verification was quickly implemented in response, without consideration to the extra step imposed on all "real" participants. Several of us have been attempting to get the "feature" removed ever since. That was supposed to happen back in March, but no luck so far.
Welcome to the Taunton Torture Chamber, one (perhaps the only) social networking site that seems intentionally anti-social.
The verification process is eliminated for users who post frequently. I have not had to use it for a couple of months. After maybe 6-10 times, you will not have to type it.
Oh?
The behavior of the code seems random, Howard. Some get by without seeing it, while others get nailed frequently, or consistently. I, for example, have been posting with fair regularity for over three years under this user name, and I get nailed every time.
Ralph,
I think it was Woody Allen who said, "It's not paranoia, if they really are out to get you."
Ray
re: paranoia
Thanks, Ray, that's reassuring. ;-)
Posting
I've noticed that if I shut my computer down and then try to get on Knots after a "new" start up I get the stupid code. But if I just jump to another site and then come back to Knots there is no problem with the Maxwell Smart Agent 86 code. That's how I avoid KAOS
I been studying up and fingering this out and . . .
I have noticed any time I try to post a link to one of the past threads here on Knots that it kicks me out (except for the times it lets me ) " Triggered the spam filter blah blah blah ".
If I put a space near the http then at least I can post the link someone can put back together by removing the space then cut and pasting into the address browser.
If I use the back arrow in my browser tool bar to a screen before I got kicked out then I can correct things and not get kicked out. Then, as often as not, I don't even get the type the code thing.
My fool proof solution for not getting frustrated with this spam filter is to not post on Knots. I think there may come a time when I just don't. I will miss it.
frustrations
As I said before, Roc, I get caught every time, whether I include links, or not.
Since the IT/Web folks don't seem to be responsive to the editorial staff (unless it involves an opportunity to exert power over the lowly user), perhaps we should initiate a letter-writing campaign aimed at Taunton executives. The threat of not renewing subscriptions might get some action.
Ralph,
Can't even resort to prayer, as appeals to a deity are now forbidden on the forum.
Ray
Edited for spelling
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
I just got kicked out posting about the box joints and the short arbor in the UK (can not use dado blades in the UK ). I included a photo from a tool supplier. I figured it was the commercial sourced photo that kicked me out so I removed it. No luck. I was still an out law !
Then it dawned on me . . . oh yahhhhhh I used contraband. I used some thing soooooo heinous . . . there are just not words for the sin I committed.
Are you ready ?
I used more than one " ? " mark in a row ! I almost used more than one exclamation mark here but it would have kicked me out.
I went in and deleted the multiple offenders and BINGO I am a good guy again.
How does one do a razberry with ones tung in a chat room ?
I am doing it now in the general direction of the chat room provider.
Or as the guard said in the Monty Python Holly Grail " I fart in your general direction you silly connigots " or something like that.
PS: I put the Jet lathe tool ad photo back in and that was all OK. It was just those SPAM IDY SPAM SPAM " ? " marks and " ! " that are bad bad bad. SPAM with " ? " marks, SPAM with " ! " marks. SPAM with SPAM.
on being rejected
It might also be the long hair in your avatar photo, Roc. ;-)
I never thought of that
General Custer had long hair and we know what happened to him. Oh my gosh.
Actually it is just a disguise. Part of my secret agent cover . . . but I have said too much.
