Oh golly geez, where have you been all my life. Now gentlemen/ladies, don’t get me wrong I not a paid professional but the growing legth of the wants from my wife and my tool list hopefully gralifies my as a very serious hobbist/diyfer.
Anyhoo, to my point. I currenty own a PC 4×21 belt sander and a PC 333 ro sander which my new sander bridges most admirably. I decided to purchase it before years end to take advantage of Ridgids lifetime warrenty which is not offered as of the first of the year. The thing that sold me was Ridgid’s rep who disclosed that it was actually a Metabo tool with Ridgid cladding and a $40-50 reduction. This is my first experience with this type of sander and am just giddy with the easy of operation and how quiet it is. I also like the dual sanding modes, 1/8″or 1/4″, so, for those of you shopping I hope this helps.

Mr. Blue,
The new Rigid line is pretty nice, isn't it? I gave them a good hands-on the other day, and to me they look and feel like a very quality tool. Makes sense that they're Metabos in disguise. PS - at my local Home Depot, the life-time warranty purchase deadline has been extended to Jan. 31.
Enjoy the new sander.

The Ridgid R2610 is remarkably similar to the Metabo SXE450, right down to the identical 3.8 amps. The only thing I can discern, at least from the catalog, is that the Metabo is a half pound heavier. I like the R2610 with its dual orbits, especially considering the price. Their other sanders, the 5" random orbit and 1/4 sheet finish sander, did not impress me as much. It's probably no coincidence that the R2610 is made in Germany and the other two in China. In fact, it seems like their new tool line is either made in Germany or China. The German stuff, like their jigsaw, looks really good while the Chinese stuff is hit-or-miss at best.
I just got one too. I was reluctant to buy Ridgid, really had my heart set on PC, but the 20% discount..., and I have 90 days to blow it up.
I have no complaints so far. Only problem is that HD does not stock the paper! Pretty limiting, at least I have the 3 80 grit discs that came with the machine.
i have it also. have done alot of sanding with it, i have no problems. I have about 8 other sanders from pc , dewalt and others. what i like is the dust collection, i can attach a 2 inch hose to my dust colluction instead of the 1 to 1.5".
my hd has the sand paper for the machine. take a look it should be there, i just do not see it in the contractor packs

I agree, it should be there. The HD tool guy also felt it should be there, and was a little emabarrassed to find that it wasn't. The only 6" they carry is the stick on.
The Dewalt 6" discs work fine, though. Had to go to Woodcraft to get them.
I am going to use it to finish sand a floor, and if it doesn't blow up, I guess I will keep it! I am having a hard time getting past that burnt orange color.
Ok. I'm having RO sander issues.
The bearings on my old PC 5" kept freezing, so I tried the Ridgid 2600. The 2600 has a pad brake which consists of little friction fingers on the dust shroud. You can buy new ones for $3 plush $8 shipping. That was NOT a typo.
I've gone thru three brakes. They just don't seem to last.
Soooo, I looked at the Bosh 5", but the dust port does not fit my round vacuum hose. The PC is a new design, so I'm trying that.
QUESTION: Do any of you have problems with the pad brake wearing on the Ridgid 5" RO sander?
I am having 5" Rigid 2600 ROS sander issues too! But not the pad brake, rather the hook and loop pad itself. I have completed only 7 smaller projects with the unit and the H&L pad has started to launch sandpaper like a frisbee. I carefully clean the sander after each project, and that includes blowing any dust off the pad. Regardless of my precautions, the pad is shot, so I replaced it with a new one. After only one project, the new pad is acting like a frisbee launcher again.
I like the Rigid sander, but I am ready to throw it out because of the annoying problem with the H&L issue.
Anyone else have this problem with the Rigid 5" 2600 sander?
In some other thread I mentioned that I had this same problem with a Makita ROS, pretty much straight out of the box. They gave me another pad, no questions asked. Went down the road about 3 years, same thing started to happen again. But this time, I had to buy a new pad for about $20. Hearing of your problem, I am beginning to wonder if there isn't something genericaly wrong with a H&L system in this application. Maybe the heat and friction of sanding just breaks this stuff down, and there isn't much you can do --- except replace the pad. In your case, have you tried a different brand of sandpaper?********************************************************

I have the 6", made by Metabo, and in the almost three years since I posted this message, have not had problems with it, although it does get pretty light use.
I also have the 6" Metabo made Ridgid. No problems so far, but I haven't logged that many miles on it as I have only had it for 4 months or so. I'm glad to hear you are trouble free at this point! Hopefully we will stay that way as I'm close to using it on a 44" x44" oak top and 4" x 4" legs... that should get a response if it it going to act up.
Regards...
