Hello,
I am new to wood working and have a portable table top Delta table saw. I have out grown it very quickly and have gotten the ok from the wife to upgrade. I was looking for a saw for my garage that is reliable. I have been to Lowes and saw a Delta Model: 36-600 saw for 299$. I was wondering if you could give me a little guidence as to if this is a good choice or is there other ones out their for the 300-400 $ range that would be better for me?
Thanks

Not to speak well of the competition but....
American Woodworker's last two issues have included articles about table saws in general and certain brands in particular. Also Woodworker's Journal's last 3 issues have had articles on table saws, their construction and use. You might find these useful backgrond info.
I'm certainly no expert, but it seems if you've outgrown the bench saw, then the contractor saw is the next step up. And my research suggests that for an amateur with your size pocketbook that a Grizzly tablesaw is the best buy. They have a basic contractor saw for sale now for about $325 plus shpping.
I just bought a slightly fancier version of the saw, am in the middle of buidling a new kitchen hutch and am loving it. I previously used a Delta contractor saw and am not finding any big differences, certainly not enough to justify the extra $250 or so a Delta version would have cost. (except I had to junk the inserts and replace them with with zero clearance ones I bought and/or made. the dado blade insert had an opening larger than the grand canyon.)
(And, no, Forest Girl, so far the lack of a lockdown for the height adjusting wheel has not been a problem, although it does feel weird at first. and I truly love this Beisemeyer clone fence)
my two cents worth (both standing on edge on the table with the saw running)
