I’m making some cherry cabinets for out kitchen. SO far so good. However I am coming up on finishing the doors and uppers. I have stained the cherry and so far have been brushing on a water-based poly for the top coat(s). I’m becoming hesitant to finish the recessed panel doors and the open cubby hole uppers with a brush as I am a little dissapointed with the brushed on finish.
Any ideas on brushing doors and cubbies or should I just talk my wife into the HVLP (with which I’ve had no experience)?
Also when sanding the paneled doors, how do you prevent taking too much finish off and sanding into the stain?

Forget the spray equipment. Do a search on this site for "wiping varnish" and follow the instructions on thinning McCloskeys Heirloom varnish to a wiping consistency and simply wipe the varnish on.
