New to Woodworking, Makita 16″ Bandsaw
Hi All!
My name is Andy and I am new to this forum and pretty much new to woodworking. I make miniature cities and birdhouses in my spare time but other than that, I have very little knowledge and experience working with wood.
I recently acquired a gem of a machine that actually used to be my grandfathers. It is a Makita 16″ Resaw Bandsaw, Model 2116. I am pretty sure it is from late 70s or early 80s and is in awesome condition. I was wondering if anyone has any info on this bandsaw, or any knowledge resawing logs, more specifically resawing logs into veneer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I look forward to making some new friends and learning as much as I possibly can.
Thanks!
-Andy

Answer to your bandsaw question
Andy,
I own one of these saws and just spent a lot of time digging out information on it in response to your question. I spent a lot of time writing it and when I went to post a notice flashed up that it was filtered by FWW spam filter. I don't know what the heck that is but it certainly destroys all incentive to try to help a fellow woodworker. Someone should talk to the idio FWW employee who came up with that idea. Sorry.;
Joe
Joe,
I appreciate your effort and WOW that is seriously depressing. I have no idea what that is either, just became a member today. I still would really appreciate your help, especially since you have the same saw. Maybe I could give you my email or we could PM so that it doesn't happen again?
Thanks,
-Andy
the spam filter (aka CAPTCHA)
The anti-spam filter gets overly aggressive at times. You can contact Gina Eide (username geide) to request being put on the list of users who bypass the filter.
I'm not familar with the Makita, Andy, so I can't be of help in that regard. As to resawing in general, I'd suggest doing a search. There are probably dozens of threads on this topic, all/most sprinkled with pearls of wisdon that may be helpful to you. There are also articles in FWW about both bandsaws in general and resawing. If you subscribed to the site (separate from simply oing Knots), you can access those online.
Where you can find them
I see them on eBay from time to time. If I tell you what they are selling for my post will be deleted (by the moderator--stupid, I think) but if you do an eBay search you will see what they are going for. Good Luck.
