Good evening to all. (Evening in South Africa @ 23:17)
Hope discussions from South Africa will be welcome. Such facilities for keen woodworkers like me not available in South Africa. The odd club in the larger cities do exist but certainly not on the scale as in USA/Canada/UK as I have seen on the net.
Magazines also scarce, I think we have only one that deals with woodwork (hobbyist) specifically. USA/UK ones available but very costly with the SA Rand vs $ & pound.
I have seen some great sites and truely expert woodworkers as I have searched the net and would love to correspond on a regular basis – purely for the sake of me learning more from those bigger than me in this field, and for the love of “creating sawdust”.
We have some wonderfull woods in South Africa although I most probably know only the tip of the Iceberg.
This note actually done only to make contact – I will progress as I learn the site and its facilities. I’ll be searching for a gallery to view some of your work out there.
Greetings

Koos,
Welcome to the forum! I've only been here several months myself, but I'm sure you'll find, as I have, that the members are friendly and always willing to give advice. (Never mind that it sometime conflicts; we all have different experiences and different approaches to getting a job done.) I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on Lake Michigan. Whereas you are at the start of spring,we have begun Autumn. It was 36 degrees this morning! Again, welcome, and enjoy.

Hi Koos,
Welcome from Maui, Hawaii!
No seasons here, just warm or less warm/rainy. Fabulous weather. Hawaii has some of the worlds most treasured woods, like Koa. Living here is like being in a poorly-supplied small town in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Everything we use is brought in by boat or air. Quite an expensive place to live but, "That's the price we pay for Paradise!"
