I’m having to much fun, which should I keep a newer (early 1990s) Record #5 or a bedrock style KeenKutter #5 with a corregated sole. I would use a Hock blade on either plane. I am not really a collector and do use try to find a reason to use any tool that I own. The Record is a lot heavier than the KeenKutter.

Which is flatter with the cheeks more square to the sole? It's really your call but they're based on the same design and with some tweaking, they'll both do the job.
They are both square but the Keenkutters sole could use a little lapping. The Keenkutter has nice Rosewood handles and the yoke is cast vrse the stamped steel in the Record which is a little loser.

I'm not familiar with the KeenKutter, but I have a definite preference for the Bedrock iteration(s) of the #5 over the preceding Stanley-Bailey designs.
Why not fettle them both and then decide?

Thats what I did this weekend I decided to keep the KeenKutter 5. Both it and the Record worked well but the KeenKutter felt better in the hand I think the older handle made the biggest difference. ThanksTroy
