Just ordered a late Christmas present for myself. A new Powermatic 4224 Lathe and a 24″ 2415 bandsaw. Does anyone have any expierence with these particular machines? I’m replacing my old Rockwell lathe from the 1950’s and a jet 14″ bandsaw. Naturally the bandsaw is backordered until March, but the lathe should be here in a couple of weeks.
Thanks,
Scott

Now that you have had your 4224 for a few months, how do you like it. I purchased one last week, it's my retirement present. Have been wanting one and ran across a fairly good deal, so I got it.
Hope to run power to it tonight or tomorrow night and be turning on it by the week end.
Sure was a job getting it out of the truck and in place in the shop.

I have been very happy with it. Not much seems to be able to slow it down. It did take a while to get used to the variable speed. One recommendation that I have is to run you power source through a switch. The fan that cools the phase converter in the metal box mounted on the leg under the motor runs constantly. I just unplug it when I am not using it.
I can understand the unloading issues. The Lathe was bad, the bandsaw MUCH worse!
Enjoy it!

I've had my 4224 for not quite two years now and really like it. Having graduated from a featherweight Delta benchtop lathe to this one was like going from a roller skate to a HumVee!
I had the remote safety switch go out on me but found that it had gotten some dust in it that interrupted the contacts somehow. Cleaned it up and it's been working fine. That's the only thing I've had to complain about thus far.
I really like the heft of this beast. It takes a pretty big out-of-balance piece of wood spinning pretty good to make it move around.
Got no experience with the saw you mention but sure wish I did!
