News that hurts.

Along with the human tragedy in Syria comes the loss and disruption of artistic traditions that have been born, fostered and perfected in Syria over several millenia…received this horrible news today via oud networking website that master Syrian luthier Samir Azar has lost his workplace and years worth of expertly and passionately produced instruments when his shop was destroyed in the city of Homs. Here is what the master had to say:
“My luthiery is knocked down…
As for me, my loss can never be compensated.
Twenty years of my life spent in manually toiling , dissolving my eyes and soul into my musical instruments I then shipped to more than twenty countries are gone!
My shop is ravished and destroyed with the walnut, Indian rosewood, and ebony woods are used for heating.
My tools and precious archives went under the feet of the executioners.
It was my temple and sacred retreat.
My God Curse the Oppressors.”

Sometimes we are ignorant of the scope of the human tragedy .

Tragedy

On that note, many of our fellow citizens are ignorant of their own good fortune of living in a relatively free society. Willing to give up their liberty for the empty promises of "free" stuff from sleazy polititions. Bashar al Assad is an animal and despot for sure, he is also a rank amatuer compared to an all powerful central government, that of course, rules us in our "best" interests.
