Maybe there’s a way to “encourage” people to enter a nickname or possibly put a note at the registration that tells people that they can enter in longer names and not all caps by using a nickname.

Hi Mark,
Getting enough sleep these days?? The instructions say to go to "My Preferences" to change nickname or user name, but the instructions don't say where to find "My Preferences". In a totally new package as "dizzy" as this new presentation is, it's very difficult to find things. Where might I find my pref's???
I found "My preferences" in the "My Forums" button, up near top of screen.
