I didn’t want to delete this post since there was some good discussion. I deleted the egregious spam and I’ll use this as a way to discuss our policy. Spam is GOING to happen on an open forum. If you don’t see any, it’s just because I’ve already deleted it. On the weekend, some is going to slip by. Once we get the processes worked out, maybe we can come up with some form of alert or moderation. We’re all still figuring this out.

Does anybody have any idea what this post is about and why it is posted at Fine Woodworking?
Yeah- my day job is in high tech. This joker is trying to game the google search rankings by creating a bunch of postings in different places that link to his site. This “can” have the effect of improving where his site appears in the google search results.
I’d suggest FWW lawyers send him a cease-and-desist letter, and take down his post.
And delete the account, for what that is worth.
Maybe institute a 5 post probationary period, where those posts are reviewed by a monitor before they show up here.
I could see that kind of policy, except maybe making it so you can't post links till a probationary period is over. It's an idea though. The spam filters are tough get just right. There will always be a need for someone clicking a button.
I'll be the weekend moderator. I will be kind to my subjects, if they are willing.
