hi john,
i bought a cheap stanley no. 6 stanley plane. i think its from around the 20’s. i have cleaned and tuned it up. i put a hock blade in it and i went to use it and found that there is no space for any shaving in the mouth. i went to adjust the frog and saw that it was as far back as possible. other than taking a file to the mouth, what do you think the problem is? thanks

CM,
The Hock blade is probably quite a bit thicker than the original blade. If you compare the width of the bevel on the original blade with the bevel on the Hock, you'll probably find that the Hock's bevel is quite a bit wider, which is why the mouth in the plane's sole isn't wide enough.
If you can't back up the frog any farther, then the only solution is to file the mouth wider. You might contact Hock directly, I think this is a common problem when installing their blades, they may be able to give you some more specific advice.
