Hi Folks,
I’m not sure if this is a double message but anyway here goes.Ineed a non yellowing finish for a bathroom vanity made from cherry and maple. So I guess it also needs to stand up against some humidity as well.
Thanks very much,
Jon.

Hi Jon,
Well, I'm not aware of any interior finish that will prevent yellowing but, this might be of interest to you: < Obsolete Link > click here.
Also Dave discussed a wipe on water borne poly on the main page: < Obsolete Link > click here
My approach would be to use Min Wax's Wipe On Poly primarily out of durability issues. If this vanity sees light use I would even consider going with a super blond shellac.

Hi Jon,
Now that's a coincidence! I finshed a vanity in maple and cherry just two weeks ago. I used a polyurethane varnish and it's yellowing already. Fortunately the tone fits with the bathroom. I would really like to see what you've done. Could you e-mail an image?
Regards
The water based polyurethanes don't have any amber shade to them at all, so you'll get a truly clear finish. I find it looks a bit unnatural on the wood to me, though; I prefer the slight ambering of standard polyurethanes. If you want to use the water based poly, you might want to experiment with some scraps and try one coat of a very light stain first. If you use an oil-based stain you have to let it dry a good long time before using water based poly over it.
Look at this thread. Its about a week old
