Northstate is from over seas, Taiwann, I believe. Not the company, the tools. Check the spindle for runout. If it's good, it's good. If you're just gonna use it once in a while, it'll be fine. If you're raising panels, all day, every day, I'd get an Oliver 287, or something like that with a 7.5 hp, 3 phase motor.

Thanks Jeff,
What would you think is the price for a Northstate, I don't know how old is , maybe 10 years, with the sliding table, nice feature, it is very heavy...

Three phase or single phase? How much HP?

I need more info. What hp, size of tables, what spindle size, and show a picture of condition. Last year, I bought an SCMI 4hp shaper with a sliding table AND 29 cutterheads used for 1600 bucks. Included in the cutterhead group were 2 sets of freeborn cabinet door cutters, and 2 sets of freeborn interior/exterior door cutters, including the panel raisers. To buy these new would have cost more than the shaper. There are many used shapers available out there for 1000 bucks or less, in the category you're talking about.

The shaper is single phase and is the green one on the picture. The other ones are Powermatics 3 phase with feeder. The man is selling the Northstate for 995 and the powermatics for 1295.00
How old are? Can tell, he bought the assets from another company and we run it, and they are very quite. But they seem that they are about 5-10 years old. He has lot of cutters that he intend to sell separately....
So what you guys think would be the price tag? I like the sliding table feature, which is only on the NOrthstate.. I am afraid if I ever need parts for it..:(
Here is the picture
Thanks for all the good advice
spend the extra $ 300 for the Powermatics and buy a 7-21 rotory-phase converter,a good price if the feeder is inc. .The Northstate is a clone of the Powermatic and sold for about $ 1,200 -1,300 DavidW
Sounds like a fair price considering the sliding table. The least expensive sliders out there are over $1500. I don't really think that it is a screaming good price. Personally, if you don't already have a shaper, I'd look for a regular unit. You can get a new one for that price, and a used one for $600 or less.

Thanks a lot mudman, this looks very solid, extremely heavy.... will see how much he wants to sell it for...

Well , let us see a picture of this turkey, man!
