Seems forum posts are exhibiting a bit of testiness lately. Perhaps our energies could be better directed to some useful purpose such as inventing that lumber stretcher everyone talks about, or a planer that will actually straighten cupped, twisted boards.
Seriously, though, with all the talent on this forum I’ll bet we could pool our ideas and come up with some machinery designs that would put even the best machines available today to shame.
Years ago there was a sawyer by the name of Clearman. He grew frustrated after years of struggling to saw lumber with the carriages that were available. Finally, using the knowledge he’d gained from years of experience, he designed his own sawmill which for years was (some would say still is) considered the best mill available.

I agree that WW would be better off if WW tools were designed by WW. We know exactly what is needed after all the time we've spent wishing our tool had this or didn't have that. We have to live the safety issues each time we pick up the tool and turn it on. Maybe I'm just dreamin'!
Gotta get to the shop. Got a bench-top mortiser that doesn't have a tilting, sliding table like that PM industrial model I would like to have. But I'm working on it....Ha..ha..

Sarge,
Why not use a sliding machinist's vise?
Jeff
Because I get so wrapped up in what I can do with things just lying around, I over-looked that. Good idea! I have no idea what they cost, but will check with BIL (machinist) and see. If it's too expensive I will stick with the original plan.
Thanks, you might have saved me a weeks spare time work. You would have thought the manufacturers would have thought of that. Nah, I guess they figured WW are so smart, they would prefer to tweak it themselves. he..he..
Have a great day..
