Nova 3000 hesitates with Leeson DC variable speed motor
I have had a Nova 3000 lathe for 11 years. It was purchased new with a Leeson variable speed motor attachment. At low rheostat settings it has always hesitated until I turn up the rheostat. I have always just lived with this (as the lathe really works great and this only occurs when the rheostat is low). I recently asked a friend with the same lathe if his did the same and he said it used to until he found out the Leeson company sends the motor out internally wired for 220. If you change the internal wiring to 110 it stops. He couldn’t remember how he did this (years ago) and the Technatool (Nova) folks say they aren’t aware of how to do this fix as they blame it on Leeson.
Has anyone had a similar problem, or know how to fix it?
Thanks.

Thg motor wiring diagram is typuically on the cover plate or under the wire box cover. A call to Leeson would be an option or call your local motor repair shop.
I am not an expert in anything but I have found that most motors have jumpers which when set correctly allow it to operate at either voltage. Now if there are not jumpers you may have to unscrew a couple of nuts w/ washers, remove a wire and move it to a new post
Hope this helps,
