I am considering a new lathe , and unfortunately my budget will not permit the One-Way or General that I would love to have .
I have been reading on the Nova 3000 lathe and it looks pretty good .
Has anyone had any experience ( good or bad ) , with this machine ?
I currently have a Myford ( English ) lathe , but need something with a larger swing .
Thanks
Leif

Leif,
Can't respond to the 300 specifically, so this may not be much help. I have the Nova Mercury (their small lathe) and love it. I compared it side by side to all the other "midis" (what a funny word), and it was head and shoulders above the others in terms of finish and features. If Nova's put the same thought and care into the 3000, you should really like it, if it has the capacity that you're looking for.
Hope this helps,
kevin
Hi Kevin
Thanks for your thoughts .
I think , generally , that if one product from a company is of good quality , the rest of thier products seem to be also .
All the best
Leif
I've had the Nova 3000 for several years. With table legs and other spindles in mind, I bought an extra bed piece (extension) and built a very heavy stand out of 2 X 6 pine and plywood. Mine also has the DC motor, but this was an option when I bought it and not an integral part of the basic machine. The new DC motor model looks very good and I would have bought it if it had been available. (The DC motor allows great stepless speed control continuously from stop to full speed.) I am still a novice-class turner, but I've done a fair amount of turning on this machine, including both spindle and bowl work, and it's been a terrific machine. A great feature is the ability to swing the drive head 90 degrees for outboard bowl turning. In my opinion, the Nova is extremely well made and there many accessories available for it. I haven't had the least problem with it and I know some experienced turners who have positive opinions about it and who would choose it over several of the popular mid-range brands. Go for it!
Hey All
Thanks so much for the good words on the Nova lathe .
It makes me feel a lot better . Am heading to woodcraft to get one right after the first of the year .
All the best and a happy new year !

Leif,
I've had a Nova 3000 for over a year now and am very satisifed with it. Its strongpoint is not power or size, but rather its versatility. Really appreciate the rotating headstock, as was mentioned earlier. The magazine "More Woodturning" had a recent review of the new model Nova DVR lathe and mentioned a few drawbacks, so I'm just as glad I got the earlier model that's been around a few years. The only problem I found with mine is that the headstock and tailstock centers were slightly misaligned; brass shims under the TS corrected it. GP
Lief,
Don't have a Nova personally. However I have been in Ernie Conover's shop in which he has 9 lathes of which only one is a Nova. This is the one he turns on most of the time so that ought to worth something.

Hi Leif,
I don't have one personally, but this lathe has been in Aust for a while (New Zealand manufactured). They have a good reputation - second to "Vicmarc" for quality here - no major problems with them at all that I'm aware of.
