After deciding to buy a small Midi Lathe for woodturning, I am currently out in the market looking for a chuck. I am currently interested in the Nova Precision Midi Chuck from WoodCraft. I do know that many of you prefer and like the Oneway chucks better. However, the most basic Oneway chuck costs twice as much and does not include the jaws(35 dollar accesory). Also, I feel that the Nova system is a bit more versitile because you can buy a set of “Soft Jaws” and turn your own plates. Because I am in fact still a “K-12” student(junior high), I will probably only use this chuck for another five years. At $109, I feel that this chuck is affordable and will bring versitality to my lathe. Does anyone have any suggestions or any experiance with this chuck? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Nova makes two of the Midi Chucks. One is dedicated to fit the lathe and one has an insert that can be replaced. Buy the one that has the insert and you will be able to keep the chuck if you buy a new lathe! I have had one and like it but after you invest in some jaws you will be stuck with Nova if you want to move up so make sure that you really want to stick with the Nova brand.
My 2 cents
