I’ve recently bought a gravity feed spray gun to finish my projects with. I’m new to spray finishing and am trying to learn what I can about technique from the internet and youtube.
I’ve finished most of my projects lately with an oil based polyurethane. My Ford # 4 cup shows that the viscosity for polyurethane would require a nozzle 1.1mm nozzle(the cup emptied in 10 to 11 seconds).
I was wondering what size nozzle people who have been doing this for a while use.
My gun has a 1.4mm. Everything I can find on the internet that has has a 1.1mm nozzle seems to be referred to as a “touch up” spray gun.
Is 1.1mm too small for polyurethane?.

Few people spray with oil based polyurethane. It takes a long time to dry so the overspray remains wet making a mess of the entire space unless there is sufficient airflow to remove the overspray. That usually takes a pro spray booth or something fairly close.
It's simple to find out how your 1.4 mm nozzle works with the material you want to use. Just try it--if nothing else just coat a few cardboard boxes to check out your new system. 1.4 nozzles can be pretty versatile.
