My granddaughter thinks 7 is the appropriate number, of various shapes, colors and sizes. And NOT lined up neatly in a row!

I think it depends on the style of the chest, etc. I'm doing a chest of drawers at the moment and I'm going with two. I had originally thought one larger in the middle, but changed my mind and will go with two smaller ones.
The drawer fronts I am using are book-matched and the best portion is in the center of the drawer. If I put one.. the knob would distort the effect I wanted.. so a smaller one to each side will be used. I build my own knobs in an attempt to compliment the rest of the piece.
Maybe some of the "fine" design guys can give you a better answer as to what is proper. That's just my approach which is far from "fine". :>)
Sarge..
To DonfromUtah:
Thanks for your sarcastic remark!!! It's wise a$$es like you who can ruin the gentlemanly manner in which this forum is run. 99% of all woodworkers who use this forum use it in the appropriate manner, why don't you.
Geez, lighten up.
Got a knot in your panties this morning?
You lighten up jerk
I saw NO SARCASM in Dons' post at all, only a bit of humor. If you are upset by someones post might I suggest that you email them direct, available via viewing their profile in most cases.
Vehement dispays of ones displeasure serve no useful purpose to you or anyone else. Remember, a little nonsense now and then is relished by the wises men.

i do not think it was meant as sarcasm.
Note the preface " My granddaughter . . . . . . ". If there had been no intro like that, then maybe it would be appropriate to consider it snide, but either way it seems like your keyboard responded in a viscereal and unkind manner.
Personally, i thought he was trying to inject some humor . . . and i smiled. But, as my wife points out frequently, i am weird.
Yeah, yeah, i know, go screw myself. JMHO, YMMV, etc

I don't think that there's a right or wrong answer to this question - it's mostly about personal preferences. A 20" drawer with good roller glides would probably work just fine with a single knob or handle in the center - or with multiple knobs/handles.
In my experience, most people tend to open drawers with one hand, so it's mostly about the drawer having a smooth, easy, operation.
70445 ,
The answer to your question can depend on several details as has been said , I think the look or style or theme of the piece should dictate the type of hardware used .
Also the drawer slide system , wood to wood or high tech undermounts as well as the size of the face , imho may influence how many pulls to use .
I have noticed that some drawers are better operated from a single center pull.
Most all the dressers and large cases I have made had 2 per face but on others 1 centered .Often the pull was used as an embellishment to add to the look of the period desired .
Hope this helps a bit
on an aside : It can be hard to read others without seeing the tongue in cheek smile over the internet . Some of the greatest help you can get around here ( and there is a lot of it ) can be the most seemingly sarcastic and wise guy sounding at times , but if you read a while you begin to understand the dynamics of the community on this forum .
Also , humor and the ability to have a good laugh and sometimes a tear are reasons some hang around .
just my take regards dusty

Also , humor and the ability to have a good laugh and sometimes a tear are reasons some hang around ..I agree but I have been known to go off the 'deep end' on occasion.. What I thought was funny the receiver did not.. Oh well,, Live and learn..As to the knob question.I posted the question about a baby changing table I made for my new granddaughter. Only one wide drawer on quality slides. One or two knobs would have worked as far as function is concerned (Even with a baby in one arm).I hot glued one knob just below center of the drawer and also with two knobs at different locations. All in all, one knob looked lonely on wide drawer!
Hiya Will ,
You go off the deep end , who would ever believe that ?
Will , that's why we care so much for you , a person not afraid to say what he thinks while not directly insulting others can't be all wrong .
Let's face it , there are very few subjects that we all agree exactly on but we don't let that stop us from contributing occasional useful comments and knowledge .
I have a hunch the OP is a young person still developing his level of integrity and compassion for others abilities and inability and the knack of looking deeper then what the surface reveals .
