Hey folks,
I’m ready to put the idea of a Seattle gathering of so-called “Knotheads” together! Need to get a roll-call soon!
It won’t be the extravaganza that they’re putting on in Montana <g>, but should be great fun: while the pig’s roasting, we can talk woodworking, take a tour of the shop, maybe enjoy some demos by local woodworkers (still working on that), a little tool-swapping, show-and-tell…..more details later.
Was thinking the weekend of the Tacoma woodworking show would be a good time. It looks like Saturday, April 9th is the day . Please post here and let me know if you cn make it. It sould be late enough to give people time to attend the show and then drive up to Seattle.

Tom -
I'd vote for Sat.
But being a member of the Audubon Society, killing birds just won't fly! (grin)
Are you gonna do the Luau in-the-pit type pig roast? Should I wear my Hawaiian shirt! (grin)

Thanks Dennis,I was begining to worry that I'd throw a party and no one would come.Actually, we're going to cook a pig in a box. It's a method that the Cubans call "La Caja China" The Chinese Box. Apparently, "Chinese" is a Cuban euphamism for anything clever. Basically, it's a wooden reflector oven. A 70lbs porker takes about 4 hrs.Down in Louisiana, they call it a Cajun microwave, and use it to cook anything that flys, swims or crawls. So wear your luau shirt, or your Che Guevara beret, or your gingham shirt and cowbow boots (Carhart bib overalls are the fashion at my shop). Just bring an appetite. So, that's one vote for Saturday.Tom
Tom -How many times do we get to vote? How many times will you count the votes? (Private joke for Washingtonians)!...........

Well Dennis,If you want a "do over", you'd better be hungry! :-)Tom
That was funny ... at the expense of us Washingtonians

Tom, just so people don't think we've had a "falling out," I'll go on record as not knowing which day will work for me. Hopefully, the stars will stay aligned and I'll make it to whatever y'all decide.

I'm in for any day, but would prefer Saturday...
Looks like Saturday is the day. That's April 9th. We have members from another forum attending, and I'm rounding up one or two WWers from Bainbridge Island who are interested.
Any suggestions for "show-and-tell"?? I have one! Tom must tell us about bow-making (no, not ribbon-bows, longbows!).

Hey Jamie,Thanks for putting the word out. I think a show and tell, or a tool and wood swap are great idea. My bow making though doesn't exactly qualify as "fine woodworking", more like "fun" woodworking.Tom
"...more like "fun" woodworking." So? Lol. It's different and presents a whole new set of challenges compared to our mortise-and-tenon world. C'mon Tom, pleeeeeeze?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
I hope all of you plan on making it to MontanaFest as well. Ruthie and I can make it from our home to Vancouver in time for supper after checking into a motel. Timing it to miss Seattle rush hour would probably make it possible to have a late lunch in Vancouver. At any rate, it's slighly less than a thousand miles and it's a very beautiful drive, well, except for eastern Washington.I won't say we're going to make out to your neck of the woods but I'm not saying no either at this point.LeeMontanaFest
Hey Lee,I hope you can make it, we'd love to have you. Rush hour shouldn't be too much of a problem on Saturday. I'd comment on the Eastern Washington remark, but I need to keep up good relations with the neighbors, and this poor state is fractionated enough!I'm afraid I'll miss the Montana Fest this time, as I've been "promised" to join my goddaughters at a Colorado "dude" ranch that week. Since I haven't been on a horse in over ten years, I imagine that my ego won't be the only thing bruised by the time I get back.Tom
Lee!I would love to make it to your Montana fest but some pressing issues here make it close to impossible to get too far away from the immediate Seattle area. I'll be there in spirit, though............

Cool! Thanks, Jamie. Robbie and I will be there. This is pot luck kinda thing, right? Do you have a signup sheet for what's being brought so far? What do we bring??...........

Dennis
Hi Dennis, yep, we'll need to bring side-dishes and stuff. No sign-up sheet yet. Sounds like I need to get with tms and make a list!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Hey Jamie,We could use a little help from the local folks re. side dishes. I don't expect anyone traveling from distance to bring food from home. Pork we'll have, beans we'll have; just about anything else would be a welcome contribution. There's also a small grocery within walking distance, for anything that we end up short of.It might als be a good idea for folks who'd like to attend, or those who think they might attend, to send one of us an email, so that we can send them directions etc.Tom
Yeah, Tom - Fremont ain't that big an area but .... exactly where in Fremont is another issue (grin). Where are you relative to the Red Hook brewery? That I know how to find blindfolded! (hahaha)...........
From Beautiful Skagit Co. Wa.
Dennis
Sorry to break it to you Dennis,The Red Hook brewery was sold to a chocolatier, and the Trollyman Pub shut down. A day blacker than Blackhook porter for sure. The shop is in upper Fremont, on Fremont Ave., about a block north of the Buckaroo Tavern.Tom
I was aware the Red Hook moved out to Woodinville area. But give me the name of a Tav' in about any part of Seattle and I'll find ya! (grin)Yep - I'm afraid the Red Hook name, if not the taste, has become villified for the sake or market share. Long live Skagit Brewery, LaConner, etc., etc. So many great brews, .... so little time............
