NY Card Table – aligning fixed and gate legs on five leg, gate-leg card tables
I’m building a copy of Rob Millard’s NY Federal Card table, and I can’t figure out how to align the gate leg with the fixed rear legs in one line as seems to be the style of these and other Federal period card tables.
The only way I can see is to cut out part of the inner apron to provide clearance for the gate leg, scabbing over the gap on the inside with another piece. This doesn’t seem too sound structurally, so I’m thinking our post-independence forbears solved this problem another way.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
