Hello Everyone,
I spent most of last winter and this summer building an old fashioned type oak hutch and so far all has went well but now the fun part the wood working is just about done and the part I fear most is about to begin the finish work. I want to leave the wood as natural as I can and thought a hand rubbed tung oil finish without using any stain might give me what I’m looking for. I would be grateful for any input.

Sounds like a good plan. Tung oil is easy to apply and pretty much impossible to screw up.

Thanks for your input I feel the same way I have used poly but have not been happy with the results.
Huntindog,
I'm about to finish the sanding on my little white oak A&C style end table. My oak has some color variation..is yours all one color? I've been studing the Jeff Hewit article in FWW on giving the oak a fumed finish without the ammonia....he offers three shades of finish. Jeff hits it first with Transtint using water and then oil pigment using Watco Walnut. The transtint is where you modify the base depth of color...form light brown to reddish brown..
Anyhow, I would assume clear watco or something else goes on top of that. Just sharing..not suggesting

No the color of the wood verys but the contrast looks good on this project, so I thought I would leave it this time. Thanks for your input though I think I have a copy of that article and will try it next time.
