Hi, my friend sent me a photo of this plane, if that’s even what it is, that he found in his family’s auto repair shop. I have never seen anything like this. It may not even be a wood plane. Any thoughts?

it is a body file. it is used for knocking down high spots in metal. you could use it for wood, but i think it would load.
I saw my uncle use that in his body shop to level lead applied hot.
Yup, auto body work. It uses a type of vixen file.
Agree with the above. The turnbuckle on top is used to adjust the curvature of the cutting surface.
