This is off topic but I had to post this.
After months of work (submitted plans a year ago, started digging the ground the last week of march) the house that my folks and I have been building is officially legal to occupy. For those of you not in the profession, this means that the last of my inspections on the house was passed this afternoon!
WOOOOOOOOOOO WHOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOO!!!!!
So now that we are legal I can start to work on the shop, and spend time doing real wood working. Such as the Kitchen Cabinet doors/draws and the rest of the trim, and the book cases for the library and the cabinet for the DVD player and such in my bed room and and and……
OK just had to get that out it is such a relieve to be out from under that and be able to do what I want the way I want and not worry about the township inspectors. My time is now my own again!!!!

Outstanding!
Learn something new every day and enjoy working wood, Paul
Doug,
Aren't you going to miss the construction process? Dealing with the inspectors and the subs you hired? What a sad story. :-)
Congratulations! JL
Oh yeah I am going to miss them like i miss the dog chewing on my leg.
The subs were actually pretty good (except the idiot gyp bd contractor) I think this was due to the lack of building in the area. I would call and they would come out when I needed them not when they wanted to, and they did the job well and fast and cheep (well for what they were doing it was cheep) so the subs were good to deel with, the inspectors, not so much.

...now you need to deal with the final punch list I bet. Enjoy. JL
Well being a DIYer and being in the trade sort of (design side) and being as this is the second house I have built and I think this is my dads 3 or 4 plus at least a couple additions and remodels for me and even more for the old guy we are doing a lot of this ourselves. So while I do have a punch list (it looks more like a small book) we are pretty much doing this ourselves so it is all things we will handle.
This is a pretty big list but it is mostly wood working stuff. Doors and Drawer for the Kitchen. Shelves for the laundry room. Hand 4 pocket doors into and out of the great room. Trim out about half the windows in the building. and about as many doors.
That kind of things. But being as I am into this odd hobby of ours and I am a designer I can not do anything standard around here (at least not by todays standard) so the stairs (that I finished last week, so I could get my Occupancy) are a custom design with a HUGE 4.25 X 2.25 solid cherry railing on top and mettle spindles and such and the moldings are all two parts. So you can see that it will be a while but I did it to myself so I guess I can't complain. And now that I am in the place I can take my time. And it is all wood working for the most part so it is not like I hate doing this kind of thing.
I will be slowing down a bit on this as I will start to spend some time filling the large basement with a model of the C&O railroad in the New River Gorge in W.V. But it is all fun one way or the other from here.

Doug,
Do you do miniature woodworking for the model railway? I have thought about doing miniatures, at the encouragement of my sister in law, but have not done any yet. I enjoy working small after a week of working on full size millwork and commercial construction, but limit myself to sculpture, crafts and wooden and mixed media jewelry. Sometimes I look at my hands and wonder how I manage to get away with it, but it is relaxing and makes the pressures of the everyday go away for a while. JL
Well not so much wood working as general model building, mostly in plastic and plaster.

Sounds good Doug. JL
