Just completeing a mantel clock. I like to try a diffferent finish. Used A Danish oil first. Can I put a covering on it? I have done something with paste wax a while back. Came out OK, but thinking maybe something more permanent. I like the oil just fine, but would like a little bit of a satin finish if possible.
Thanks for any and all replies

You can try mixing a little satin poly with the oil -- diluted with enough paint thinner to make it easy to wipe on. This will build up the finish slightly, and impact a satin glow to it.
Thanks for reply. I may go with wax this time and try your suggestion on some sample piece first.
Thanks againRon from Pittsburgh
I have used poly over Watco, just have to be sure it's cured first. I waited about a week, but that was probably longer than necessary.

Thanks for reply. I still think I will give it a try on a test piece and go with the wax this time. Clock is gift for in-law and want to keep the peace!!!Ron from Pittsburgh
Ron,
All waxes are not the same. Maybe you should shop for another if the one you are using is too shiny. I have some liquid Watco that comes out on the low end of sheen. The harder ones are usually the highest sheen, and they can be dulled with steel wool, then a little sheen brought back with a little hand burnishing.
