Hi everybody,I would like to know if I could use linseed oil as a base coat to liven up the color on cherry then use wipe on poly to finish the job.I would also wondering if anybody knows where I would find dewaxed shellac because nobody seems to know anything about this product in harware stores.I need this shellac because I used potassium dichromate to darken the cherry.By the way the cherry really aged nicely with this chemical, but I now have to neutralise it before I finish it.Thanks in advance

Zinsser has a product called seal coat which is a 2# cut of dewaxed shellac. Most of the big box stores carry it.

Scott - Neither HD and Lowe's around here (Houston) have the Zinnser Seal Coat.
I buy dewaxed flakes and mix my own. I generally use one cup of flakes per quart of alcohol. Do a Google web search on "Shellac Flakes". http://www.google.com

I agree mixing your own is better I thought this would give him a place to start. Zinnser claim a three year shelf live to me that sayes they have to add something to the shellac because the stuff I mix only is good for about six month.

I've purchased from them, good product and service. They have a sample pack that will give you a broad range of colors for nominal cost.
I've read that dichromate is a very serious carcinogen. A product like it was the subject matter of the Erin Brakovich movie.
