My neighbor reported that he was told at the Sherwin Williams store that oil paints would not be available after Jan. 1, 2021.
Has anyone else heard this? He failed to ask if it only applies to SW, to clear finishes, etc., all important questions.

Most of these issues are controlled by individual states. California has been most restrictive.
We are in GA, so no issue there. I found nothing new with a cursory search coming from any state or US EPA, so it must be Sherwin Williams. I'll stop by the store today, need some varnish anyway.
I used SW oil recently and was not overly impressed. My opinion is that the paint companies have not invested any time in the past twenty years making oil paint better so we’re probably better off letting oil go and making the swap. Just my opinion.
My employer (PPG) removed oil paints from our inventory early this year.
They are available, however, if you are using them in a manufacturing process and will sign a statement saying that you conform to EPA regulations. Read: no retail oil paint sales anymore.
Other manufacturers we buy from make good, legal oil finishing
products but stains and varnishes only. No paint.
