Last week I happened across a Porter Cable Type A3 belt sander (ca. early 50s) in real good shape. Now, I don’t have much call for these things but, what the hey, the price was right…..free.🙂
Any who, I intend on “restoring” this puppy back to new condition. Problem is; it’s missing the front knob. I’d like to get an owner’s manual and parts list for this bad boy but, can’t seem to find one. Porter Cable practically laughed at me and oldmachinery.com is for stationary equipment, even tried Ebay; no go.
Does anybody know of a site that “specializes” in old corded hand tools? I’d sure appreciate getting pointed in the right direction. Thanks.

Hi Dano, this could be a tough one! One thing you might want to do is set up an automatic search on eBay so you get an email if anything new matching your description shows up. One other idea: If there's a repairman in your area that fixes such tools (we have one over in Poulsbo who fixed my Makita drill when my sig-o busted it), he might have old parts laying around. Our guy in Poulsbo has a shop that looks like it's in a permanent garage-sale state, with parts and tools all over the place.

Jamie,
Thanks for the reply and the tip about Ebay. There is an outfit in Medford that claims to have one of the largest parts "warehouses" in the PNW but, every time I go to them they don't seem to have what I need, at this point in time, I won't do business with them just out of principal...(They always give me the same "pitch", to date they've never come through).
The knob is really no biggie, I suppose. I could easily make one but, having an owner's manual and parts diagram could be handy. If you could send me your source's phone number by e-mail, I'd appreciate it...
