I have an old Craftsman jointer (circa 1980) which has absolutely no provisions for dust collection. Has anyone retrofitted or “Rube-Goldberged ” (man, am I showing my age there! 🙂 ) some sort of dust collection system? Jsut looking for ideas since I would really like one of those shiny new jointers, but the $$ could be used elsewhere.

Smijal,
Most smaller jointers don't have a dust collection port built into the machine. The typical set up is to have the dust collector port in the side or back of the machine's stand and to have a square cut out in the top of the stand below the cutter head on the jointer. If you aren't going to be planing a lot of wood, you could just put a box to collect the shavings inside of the base.
