What is your definition of old growth? How many rings? What is the diameter and is it still in the ground? If so is it rocky and where are you or it located?

A friend of mine grew up in Pelahatchi (sp?) Mississippi. He said back when he was a kid (1920's, 1930's) lumberman came through and bought all the walnut trees they could and fell them. Several years later another group came through and bought all the stumps and with a quarter charge of dynamite harvested them. Yes there is probably a market for your stumps. Finding someone interested in getting them to market might be a challenge.
Several years ago I had an elderly friend who owned a piece of land in East Texas. He had over 2000 standing walnut trees, a virgin forest. He asked my help in trying to sell the timber. I tried the major hardwood people, they were'nt interested. The only offer I got was from a logger, he offered the same price ash was going for if I put it on the ground. We declined. As far as I know it still stands as it always has, which I think in not a bad thing. I have never seen the property.
Gods Peace
