I seem to remember an article in a recent issue of FWW that talked about old tool suppliers. There was a reference to a source in New Tripoli, PA. Anyone recall the name and number of this sourse? Any experience in purchasing old planes/saws from there or elsewhere?
Thanks,

Bill Phillips in New Tripoli. Great guy. Older (70s?) gentlemen with some serious health problems.
He has more antique tools than Stanley and Disston put together. Hundreds of handsaws. Probably several thousand planes. Hundreds of braces, chisels, etc., etc., etc., etc.
He and a son are at Kutztown on Sunday mornings I believe with a load of stuff.

Thank you Alan. Would you happen to know his telephone number?Glaucon

Don't have it. My guess is you could find it on the internet, or even calling information. I would assume that is a 610 area code. But, google can tell you that also. And, he might be listed as William, but try Bill if that doesn't work.
One of those things of I know how to get there, but don't even know the address.
For some things he is too high for me. Others, he asks a very reasonable price. No different than anyone else. He takes cash only.

Went up to see Bill Phillips this morning- nice guy with an enormous selection of hand tools, almost all in good to very good condition. Picked up Bailey jack (#5) and fore (#6) planes each ca 1890, in very fine condition (together will probably require less than 2 hours of lapping and honing to start making shavings). In either case, the throats and frogs are in great shape, no repairs, no loose knobs, plenty of iron left... He had a 605 that was also in good shape, but at the price, couldn't see it ($175 vs $50 for the #5). :^)Also a #71 router plane (early 20th C I'd say, with a full set of cutters) and two nice Disston saws- the tenon saw will need to be resharpened, but is otherwise in very good condition, the crosscut is mint and will not need any work at all. Thanks to all for the directions. Highly recommended.Glaucon
