I have an old miter box that belonged to my Dad, and my Grandad before that. I believe it is a Millers Falls, but can’t find any manufacturer marks on it. It’s all cast iron and steel, and is in need of repair and replacement parts. I’d be interested to know where I might be able to send it for a rebuild, if such a company exists. Thank you for your time, Pete

Vintage Tool Repair
Pete,
I don't believe anyone makes a business of restoring smaller vintage tools, except myself on occasion, it is hard to make much money at it. Most tools like a miter box just require cleaning, lubrication and adjustment, and anyone who has some machine experience can probably do that.
If parts are broken or missing then the job becomes much harder or impossible, since there is no source for parts other than to search on Ebay and hope a similar tool turns up at a good price. Sometimes a missing part can be made new or an old broken part repaired but the cost climbs quickly if you are paying someone to do the work.
Miller's Falls miter boxes had a brass plate with the name and model number on it. The plate was attached to the left side of the front post assembly, if it is missing you will be able to make out where it was mounted because the rivet holes will be visible. The Millers Falls boxes were excellent tools, I own a few. The MF boxes were also called Langdon boxes after the original manufacturer that MF took over.
I'd be willing to talk to you about possibly repairing the box, you can call me at home later today: 802-767-3105.
old miter box
John, Thanks so much for your time and thorough reply. Your response is about what I expected, but was hoping there was an outside chance there might be a source out there. Unfortunately this one does have broken and missing parts, but I'll look around for a match with the online services, and might get lucky. Best Regards, Happy Holidays, Pete
