Older “Dubby” w/ wooden backstop….
Does anyone out there have the older model Dubby crosscut sled, the one with a wooden backstop?? I dug one out of the rafters today, have had it a long time (auction find), but it didn’t fit my Jet contractor saw. Seems to fit the Unisaw fine though.
I’m missing some hardware, and will probably have to order it, so need some info. I’m assuming the locking knob assemblies are 1/4″-20, correct? Also, did the wooden ones come with a hold-down clamp?? (like a DeStaCo)
There are two threaded inserts at the far end (away from the blade), I’m not sure what they’re for. Seems logical that one would be for locking the extension rod inside the backstop, but why two??
Have you made any modification(s) to the Dubby that you can pass along??
TIA!

FG,
I have an older dubby, so I took a couple of pic's to show you. The two screws in the fence are thumbscrews that hold the cutoff length setting stop. (Why two? Beats me. Perhaps because vibration loosens them) The holes for the black knobs are 1/4-20 as you said. I have not done any customizing, so no help there. When I switched to a thin kerf blade, I glued a piece of mdf on the right side, and then trimmed it with the new blade. (reestablish zero clearance)
Good luck. I like this accessory and use it every day.
Tom.
Tom, thanks for the pics! I hadn't even thought about the thin v. standard kerf issue. Hmmmmm, one of my rip blades is TK, the rest of the blades are regular, so unless I get lazy and leave the 24-tooth rip on the saw when crosscutting (shame!) I guess I'm OK.
Your Unisaw looks similar in age to mine. Motor cover's on the opposite side though. What's the scoop with the outfeed table? forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Hi, again,
The outfeed table folds down and out of the way when not in use. When I lift it up, the legs swing out and support it in a level position. It works great in a small basement shop like mine.Tom.
Tom, I'm running into a problem wonder if you can help. There was no T-nut with mine, to place under the arched groove. I bought one and used the Dremel to grind flats, making two sides that are slightly smaller than the width of the groove, but it still doesn't slide well at all, even thought I rounded off the ends of each flat.
What's the T-nut design on the original? Can I duplicate that, or do I need to get them to send me one?
Thanks!!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
forestgirl,I took some crude photos and hope they help. When I loosen the knob, I usually have to hit it downward to break it loose before moving the fence. Let me know if more photos would help.Good luck, Tom.
Thanks, Tom, that was fast! Look just like the one I ground down, but they took it further (it's very slow going with the Dremel wheel). I guess I won't worry about it, I'll just take it down a little further so it won't damage the channel, and work it however need be.
Thanks again!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Sounds like a perfect excuse to buy a die grinder, bench grinder or both!
Did you ever find your meter?

There's something about trying to grind a piece that small on a grinder (we have at least 4, LOL) that doesn't appeal to me. Haven't figured out a method of holding it with something other than my fingers. Pondering....I guess I could capture it between two nuts on a threaded rod. I'll try that.
Meter: Yep, I sent you an email awhile back with the brand and model#. Can't remember it now off the top of me head.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
The last e-mail I got was Jan. 19 and you had gotten the router running but had not found the meter. One of us must have forgotten to bow three times towards Redmond.

I lied, it wasn't an email, it was a post! Click here.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
FG,
Try using a Vise Grip plier to hold small parts while grinding them. Otherwise your fingers will grow shorter...

Vise Grips are the cat's meow, for sure. Hubby tends to use 'em and keep 'em, I'll look around and they're gone (again). I'll track 'em down today -- my day off, should give me enough time, LO>forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Try a "hand vise". They are on E-bay regularly and pretty cheap. I got one for $8.00 + ship and wouldn't grind small stuff without it. Beats the crap out of a pair of vice grips!!!

Looks like a good idea, Mack. I can get one regular retail for no too much. Thanks for the tip!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

That's why I suggested FG call Jerry or write to him. He'll give her the best solution to her problem.
Thanks for writing.

Thanks, Mel. I've got some time in the shop tonight. If I can get my scrap-bin glue-up done, I'll try grinding down the T-nut. If it still doesn't work well, I'll give him a call.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
