Oldham Viper = Porter+Cable??
Hi All,
No, this is not a math question!
This came up in another discussion about router bits. I didn’t want to hijack that discussion with this question, so I started a new one.
I used to buy Oldham Viper bits all the time from Home Depot, and they performed very well. Then one day I went in there and instead of Oldham Viper, there are Porter+Cable bits in the same rack.
In a previous discussion about router bits, someone said that those Porter+Cable bits are the same as the Oldham Viper router bits, just with a different color and different packaging. It would be a shame if the Oldham Viper bits were really gone altogether, since they were one of the highlights of Home Depot’s offerings!
So, are these Porter+Cable bits at Home Depot really the Oldham Viper bits in a different package?
Thanks,
Matthew

Porter cable was part of the tool group of Pentair. That tool group was PC, Oldham, Delta, Devilbiss compressor's and Flex (europe line). Dewalt bought this group last summer. The new PC bits could be Oldham but I'm not sure at all. I know there is a freud sales rep that's on here once in a while and he has said in the past that some of the tool maker bits like bosch, PC, etc are outsourced to manufacturers. I found a link to the freud rep that post here. 22375.17 You make want to ask him in a post, he seems to know all the inside the industry info. Those PC bits at the depot aren't cheap though. For the same money or a little more, I would go with whiteside bits from a local woodcraft.
