Hey, all you machine maniacs!!! Does anyone have any experience with Oliver woodworking machines? Their prices seem pretty good for the 10 inch cabinet saw with a 36 inch fence, I was quoted a price of $1095.00. It was a left tilter and included 2 cast iron wings. A similar set up from Delta runs about $1300.00 but only comes with 1 cast iron wing. I’m sure the Delta unifence is better than the Olivers. Yes, the Olivers are made in Taiwan but I don’t want to have that discussion here. I think the USA vs Taiwan debate was covered thouroughly in another discussion.

One of the true tragedies of the woodworking industry is that the name of Oliver Machinery is being used to market taiwanese machines. For over 100 years, Oliver Machinery, up in Michigan, made some of the BEST industrial woodworking machinery ever built. I've got a restored 270 table saw from 1939, an 18 incher, that can rip through 16/4 hard maple like butter.
Anyway, a friend of mine purchased the Oliver 10" jointer, and is happy with it. He had the same initial difficulties it seems that most have with the taiwanese built stuff, but once he got it together, and tuned, it works pretty good. It still won't compete with an old cast iron "Ollie" from the good old days, but what the heck!!
Here's a pic of my restored 1957 Northfield Foundry Jointer, which I like even better than the old Oliver Jointers.

Thanks, Jeff. I was thinking about getting the spindle sander from Oliver, but when they added in the cost of shipping it killed the deal.
Thanks Jeff, now I have Jointer envy. :>) Sweet piece of machinery.
